A 1-year-old child is in critical condition after being found unresponsive in a bathtub at a Houston home Saturday night, according to police.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of Sherman Street.
Houston police and Houston Fire Department crews responded to a 911 call reporting a child in distress. When first responders arrived, they found the 1-year-old in the bathtub.
Medics performed CPR and were able to resuscitate the child. She was transported to an area pediatric hospital in critical condition.
Police said the child’s mother was home at the time with the 1-year-old and an 8-year-old child. It is not immediately clear whether the mother was in the bathroom with the baby when the incident occurred.
Detectives are investigating. At this time, police said the incident appears to be a tragic accident, though the investigation is still in its early stages.
